Rio de Janeiro is well know for being one of the best places in the world for celebrating the new year so Havaiana made an advert for this.
This was a very popular advert in Brazil for Havianas. If you don’t know portuguese the story is that the guy tells the woman that she would look great in the Havaianas and tells her she could be a model. When she replies and says she is he walks off disappointed saying that was his best chat up line.
Havaianas have always had exciting and cutting edge marketing so I’m going to feature some of the best adverts from Havaianas. They tend to have a strong use of colours and Brazilian themes.
Havaianas may be the leading brand of flip flops in the world (and the most comfortable) but people still don’t know how to spell the brand name. One of the most popular misspellings is Havianas which is pretty close but it’s just missing a “A” before the v.
Havaianas are always introducing new styles, shapes and colours of Havaianas flip flops and it’s lead to the increased popularity of Havaianas. They’ve now decided to make a more bold change and are introducing Havaianas Trainers. This means that you can wear Havaianas all year round including in winter.
They are not yet available in the UK but will be on the shelves soon. It will be interesting to see how this change in product goes down with customers and if they are popular we might start selling them at Flip Flop and Away.
Ayrton Senna was a Brazilian Formula 1 racing driver. He was killed during a race in the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix. In his relatively short career he won the Formula 1 championship 3 times and is widely regarded as one of the greatest drivers in Forumla 1 history.
Since the accident that lead to Senna’s death resulted in widespread changes in Forumla 1 and there are now much stricter regulations and security measures in place.
In Brazil he is regarded as a national hero so at his funeral there wa a national state of mourning. His status as a national treasure has developed more after his death as after his death it was discovered that he has donated millions of dollars to childrens charities in Brazil, which he had kept secret during his life.

Gisele is a Brazilian super model, and is the highest paid model in the world with an estimated $150 million fortune. Gisele grew up in the state if Rio Grande do Sul, she is Brazilian but both of her parents are German.
Gisele is well known for her catwalk modelling as well as modelling for top brands such as Versace and Apple. She is also famous for having a strong of well known boyfriends such as Leonardo DiCaprio and professional surfer, Kelly Slater.
Gisele is known a being a fan of Top Havaianas and has often been seen wearing them.
Havaianas are not the only great thing that Brazil has produced, for the next few posts we will be looking at the most successful Brazilians.
Probably the most famous Brazilian of all time is Edison Arantes do Nasciment aka Pele, regarded by many as the greatest ever footballer. Pele became a member of the Brazil national team at just 16 years old and won his first world cup at 17 and went on to win the World Cup two more times after this, the only player ever to win the world cup 3 times.
He is the leading scorer of the Brazil national team, and as they are the most successful team of all time this is quite a feat. He scored 643 goals for Santos, his national team and has a total goal scoring record of 1087 goals in 1120 appearances.
Since retiring from football Pele has become an ambassador for the environment and is ever present at the world cup.
